DHL opens US$35 million air export facility in Chicago O'Hare zone
DHL GLOBAL Forwarding has finished a US$35 million three-storey warehouse complex of 491,000 square feet (149,670 square metres) in the Chicago O'Hare International Airport's cargo zone that will operate as an air export gateway.
The building will house 500 employees. It is a bonded container freight station with a portion of the building designated as a foreign trade zone.
"This represents an important moment because it is the culmination of a meticulously planned facility that will solidify our market leadership, and offer services to help customers grow," said DHL Global Forwarding CEO Christoph Remund.
The building contains two temperature controlled chambers (+15?to +25癈 and +2c to +8癈) that together measure close to 10,000 square feet and a 999 square feet ambient receiving area, built with variable temperature capabilities to process pharmaceutical, biotech or medical devices that require a temperature-controlled environment and two dedicated truck docks.
The new facility in Chicago is also established as a certified life sciences station to support DHL's THERMONET solution for temperature controlled air freight.
It is one of eight certified life sciences stations in the US completed thus far, with specific storage capabilities dedicated for life science and healthcare goods.
