Bosporus shut to tanker traffic due to bridge works: shipping agents
The Bosporus is closed to all tanker traffic Friday as work continues on a third bridge over the strait, according to shipping agents.
“The Bosporus is closed to all transit traffic in both directions from 05:00 to 16:00 hrs local time due to the works on the third Bosporus Bridge,” said a report from shipping and logistics firm GAC.
The third bridge, called the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, will accommodate rail and motor vehicle transit across the Bosporus and is due for completion by the end of 2015.
The Bosporus and the Dardanelles together form the only commercially navigable transit route between the Black Sea and the Mediterranean.
