Cargolux/HNCA air cargo JV to build Zhengzhou into cargo hub
THE joint venture between Europe's largest air freight carrier, Cargolux Airlines International, and Henan Civil Aviation Development and Investment Co. Ltd (HNCA) is expected to launch in 2015, according to a document from the government of Henan province.
The joint venture aims to be a global air cargo provider with the central China city of Zhengzhou, Henan as its centre. It is anticipated that the JV will transform Zhengzhou into a national cargo hub, reports state news agency Xinhua.
The new cargo airline is expected to commence routes linking Zhengzhou with Chicago and Los Angeles next year.
HNCA, a state-owned enterprise with registered capital of CNY6 billion (US$979 million), acquired a 35 per cent stake in Cargolux in April 2014.
This was followed by Cargolux commencing a cargo route linking Zhengzhou to Luxembourg in June. Cargo volumes transported on this route had exceeded 10,000 tons by the end of November.
Cargolux's cargo volume via Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport is expected to reach 200,000 tons by the end of 2016, according to the document.
The Zhengzhou airport offers 22 international cargo routes, linking the city with Asia, Europe, the United States and Australia.
