Kansas City International Airport's cargo falls 0.4pc, but passengers rise

KANSAS City International Airport (KCI), Missouri, handled a total of 17.6 million pounds of air freight and mail in October, a decrease of 0.4 per cent year on year.

Within this total air freight amounted to 17.2 million pounds, down 6.2 per cent year on year, while air mail volumes fell 21.8 per cent to 382,762 pounds, according to the latest data from the Aviation Department, reported Kansas City Infozine.

On the other hand, October's passenger traffic was up 6.2 per cent from 2013 figures at 927,919 arrivals and departures. During October, passenger boardings were up 5.8 per cent, with a total of 463,157.

For the year to date, boardings totalled 4,247,787, an increase of 2.9 per cent from the same period last year.

A number of new services were launched over the year from the airport, a development welcomed by Kansas City director of aviation Mark VanLoh.

"Spirit Airlines began flying here earlier this year and regional carrier SeaPort just added service to Great Bend, Kansas. American will add new nonstop service to Miami, and Southwest will add daily nonstop service to Ft. Myers in March and New York - LaGuardia in April," Mr VanLoh said.

"These additions, plus a second frequency to Seattle by Alaska Airlines, have set the stage for a banner year of air service at KCI in 2015."
