Fedex delivers 9,000 turkeys for long-term partner, Kelly Turkeys

FEDEX has been gearing up to deliver 9,000 turkeys for family-run business, Kelly Turkeys, in just 24 hours on December 22, to ensure that families across the UK have their turkey in time for Christmas day.

While the express delivery firm's team are hard at work throughout the year, the run up to Christmas is by far the most important time of year.

The two companies have worked together for the last 12 years, a relationship that ensures customers across the UK receive their orders in time for the big day. Fully insulated chill boxes are used to ensure fresh transportation of the turkeys.

The idea that families could be left without a turkey at Christmas is an additional consideration that drives FedEx to continue to deliver against all odds, no matter the extreme weather conditions faced en route, reports Lloyd's Loading List.

Managing director sales UK & Ireland, FedEx Express, Martin Davidian, commented: "We even reached one elderly customer based in one of the northern most parts of Scotland, with the courier walking the last half mile in heavy snow just to get there."

Founded in 1971, Kelly Turkeys has gone from strength to strength over the last four decades, recording sales figures of GBP4.5million (US$6.98 million) in 2014.

Son Paul Kelly added: "Our turkeys are industry champions and have been named the British Turkey Federation's Best Christmas Turkey for eight consecutive years."
