ExactEarth adds 3 satellites to boost global vessel monitoring
CANADIAN satellite AIS service provider exactEarth has added three new satellites to its exactView constellation, raising the number of satellites in the company's space-based AIS network to eight.
ExactEarth says the data from the satellites will significantly increase the capabilities of its global vessel monitoring service, reported Maritime Satellite Communications.
Under the terms of the contract the Cambridge, Ontario-based firm will purchase one satellite outright, while obtaining data under licence from the other two.
The in-orbit AIS satellites are operated through a global network of 13 Earth stations.
"Our ground station network is rapidly expanding towards 23 locations around the world to provide the lowest latency service and highest detection performance available using detection technology," said company vice president Philip Miller.
