White House: West coast dock rift like last year's on east coast
THE Obama White House reacted to pleas to intervene in the worsening labour climate on the west coast with an air of cheerful indifference in a statement at a press briefing.
"Just last year, there was a long negotiation at the east and Gulf coast ports," said assistant White House press secretary Frank Benenati, reported American Shipper.
"And just as the two sides in that case were able to resolve their differences through the time-tested process of collective bargaining, we're confident that management and labour at the west coast ports can do the same thing," he said.
