Deutsche Bahn rail strike ends with hope for Christmas truce
A GERMAN rail strike has ended with freight services starting to return to normal despite a lack of a lasting deal with management.
The GDL union (Gewerkschaft Deutscher Lokomotivfuehrer or the union of German train drivers), while not ruling out a renewed strike, said it was hopeful of an agreement with management by Christmas.
GDL union train drivers union began their strike against state-owned railway Deutsche Bahn on November 5.
DB Schenker, the forwarding arm of Deutsche Bahn, confirmed to Lloyd's Loading List, that the strike had ended.
A court had ruled the strike to be legal, but no agreement has been reached with management on the union's demands for a five per cent pay hike and a shorter work week.
