Swire Shipping and Everett sign deal for monthly calls to South Pacific
SINGAPORE's Swire Shipping's West Coast North America (WCNA) Service will add a monthly, direct call linking Everett, Washington with Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands, reports the American Journal of Transportation.
Swire Shipping is the liner trades division of the China Navigation Company the deep sea ship owning and operating arm of the multinational Swire Group.
Swire's West Coast North America Service operates two 31,000-dwt multi-purpose, 2,000-TEU vessels with 150 reefer plugs each and fitted with 4 x 60 tonne deck cranes.
Swire will serve the Port of Everett every 35 days, carrying a wide range of general cargo, including heavy and bulky project lifts as well as general and reefer boxes.
"Swire Shipping is proud to work with the Port of Everett in this new venture, and we are excited to expand our West Coast North America service offerings into the Puget Sound," said Swire US country manager Pete Grossgart.
Swire Shipping offers a monthly direct service from Vancouver BC, Everett WA, Vancouver WA and Los Angeles, through to Suva, Brisbane, Port Kembla, Geelong and Tauranga, with onward connections across the South Pacific.
The Port of Everett has recently invested in a 150-ton capacity GMHK 7608 Mobile Harbour Crane that complements its existing 100-ton capacity HMK280E offering tandem lifts up to 250 tonnes.
Said Everett port chief operating officer Carl Wollebek: "Our road and BNSF rail connections coupled with the port's investment in facilities will enhance Swire's service offerings."
