Hapag-Lloyd joins other lines in suspending Rotterdam congestion charge
GERMANY's Hapag-Lloyd has joined Team Lines and Contargo, in dropping a Rotterdam congestion surcharge as the cargo flow eases in the port.
Congestion in Rotterdam started in April after infrastructure upgrades at the south side of the ECT Delta Container Terminal disrupted cargo movement.
In response, Rotterdam introduced measures in August to speed cargo flow and remove the backlog of containers, including diverting inland services and bundling boxes at other terminals.
Last week, barge operator Contargo and feeder operator Team Lines also announced that they had discontinued their surcharges.
Port container director Joyce Bliek told London's Containerisation International that the measures made a big difference and cargo flow was returning to normal.
