City of Paris may levy road tax on heavy goods vehicles January 1
A NEW transit tax on heavy goods vehicles may be introduced by the City of Paris for use of the peripherique road network that rings the French capital, subject to a vote on the tax by the city's council later this month.
The proposed tax would go into effect on January 1 and would be levied at EUR0.13/km (US$0.16) on vehicles above 3.5 tonnes and would generate estimated annual revenues of EUR5 million ($6.38 million), reported Lloyd's Loading List.
Four "tax gantries" spanning roads have already been installed and dry-run testing is due to begin on October 1.
The tax would also be levied on trucks plying motorways in the Greater Paris region.
