NYK LNG Carrier LNG Flora recognized by Japan Coast Guard

On September 12, the NYK-operated and managed LNG carrier LNG Flora was recognized by the commandant of the Japan Coast Guard for the long-term contribution the ship has made by providing seawater temperatures to the Japan Coast Guard’s Hydrographic and Oceanographic Department, thus contributing greatly to the understanding of oceanic conditions.*

The Japan Coast Guard uses the seawater temperatures in a variety of marine research and information services, such as chart development and responses to marine environmental issues and disasters, including earthquakes. In 2012, the NYK-managed LNG carrier Broog was recognized for its contributions.**

An award ceremony was held at the commandant’s room in Tokyo on September 12 and attended by NYK LNG Shipmanagement Ltd. president Hiroshi Yonezawa, as a representative of NYK concerned parties.

NYK is encouraged by this honor and will continue to provide maritime environment information for the achievement of a better global society.

* On September 12, 1871, the Ministry of the Navy’s Canals and Waterways Division, the predecessor of the Japan Coast Guard’s Hydrographic and Oceanographic Department, was established and started the production of charts for Japan’s waterways.
