Forwarders braced for Air France strike, made other plans, coping well
FRENCH flag carrier Air France is to operate half of its normal flights because of the current pilots?strike, but forwarders are none too bothered, reports Lloyd's Loading List.
A spokesman for Air France-KLM Cargo declined to comment on the extent to which the strike was affecting its air freight business.
The company website listed the number of long-haul flights operating was almost 50 one day, then falling to 30 the next.
The cargo unit told customers that schedules of affiliate carriers KLM, Martinair, and Air France-KLM-Martinair's trucking services, were not impacted.
One source said there was enough warning for forwarders to make alternate arrangements. "Capacity is fluid too, and forwarders have probably not encountered too much trouble transferring to other carriers," he said.
Panalpina's air cargo country manager Alain Samour said he was able to prepare and was not much affected.
"Our relations with carriers other than Air France-KLM are holding us in good stead as is our access to other European gateways," he said.
French forwarder SDV said it too adapted to take into account the strike, especially for French Overseas Territories routes, but declined to provide more details.
