Amazon's German warehouses hit by strike over pay, working conditions
GERMAN Amazon warehouse workers have once again gone on strike against the US e-commerce retailer, demanding more pay and better working conditions.
The Verdi labour union said it had called out workers to strike at warehouses in Bad Hersfeld, Leipzig, Graben and Rheinberg, having already staged walkouts there in June.
The company employs 9,000 warehouse staff, as well as 14,000 seasonal workers, at nine warehouses in Germany, its second-biggest market outside the US.
The union argues warehouse staff should get standard mail order and retail pay, but Amazon says they are logistics workers and get above-average pay by industry standards.
