Expect 6 months of bad congestion at Manila: ICTSI operations chief
THE global shipping community should brace itself for six months of serious congestion at the Port of Manila despite the lifting of a truck ban that caused it, says ICTSI operations chief Christian Gonzalez.
揌aving a few extra truck moves in a couple of days helps after being paralysed for seven to eight months, but there are still queues everywhere," said Mr Gonzalez, whose International Container Terminals Inc, runs the main port operation.
揑t takes a few months for a bad congestion situation to build, and it will take half a year to get out of it,?he said. "DP World's terminal has queues. We have queues as does Batangas Port.?
What is not widely understood is that metro Manila is made up of 14 independent municipalities, which have their own truck bans and restrictions, reported Lloyd's List.
Said Mr Gonzalez: 揙ne says trucks can come through, but only use one lane. Another says come through, but only use these roads, while others said no trucks during the day. So while Manila has lifted the ban, there are still different regulations in place,?he said.
