Top Maersk, MSC execs to Washington to plead with FMC over 2M fate
TOP level Maersk and Mediterranean Shipping Co executives are to meet on Friday in Washington with the US Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) as now appears that getting through the red tape will not to be as easy as expected for their 2M shipping alliance.
Two federal commissioners have expressed doubts about 2M and said the FMC is likely to stop the clock on the 45-day review process to get more information, thus delaying regulatory approval for weeks.
Commissioner William Doyle told Lloyd抯 List that he had a list of questions. Commissioner Richard Lidinsky objects to aspects of the proposal..
Mr Lidinsky found it 搗ery unusual?for parties to request such a meeting at this stage before staff had made recommendations or a vote had been taken to stop the clock.
Maersk and MSC submitted their scheme at the end of August, explaining how they expect to service the US trade.
To avoid the delay, the high-level team from the two shipping giants hope to answer the questions the commissioners pose in person.
