Siemens selects NAPA to complement its Siship EcoMain package
NAPA announced that Siemens’ innovative system platform, Siship EcoMain, now offers integration of software from leading maritime software house NAPA. On the heel of a series of high-level partnerships between NAPA and leaders in the global maritime industry, this agreement marks the first step of a developing partnership around software between NAPA and Siemens.
NAPA Logbook, which provides ‘real time’ awareness of vessel operations to those on shore, will run on Siship EcoMain’s standardised interface which allows data exchange between all onboard electronic systems. Integrating NAPA Logbook into Siship EcoMain will maximize information sharing between stakeholders on board and ashore. This integration into Siship EcoMain will also help owners minimize installation costs by allowing the customer to install several applications alongside NAPA Logbook through the flexible data platform.
Siship EcoMain is a common platform into which all operational data from the numerous sophisticated installations and systems onboard a ship is gathered and processed in a standard format, including some third-party software like this integration from NAPA. Until now, such systems have managed individual processes successfully but Siship EcoMain is the first system to pool data from all modules to help ship operators optimise their use of energy and resources across on-board processes.
NAPA has developed a version of the NAPA Logbook, which will seamlessly integrate into the Siship EcoMain platform, guaranteeing maximum transparency of the entire ship operation both onboard and in offices ashore.
NAPA Logbook automates and regularly synchronises data collection, decreasing the man-hours spent on reporting and logging by crews, and eliminating the problem of inconsistencies in recording. It also incorporates reminders, guidelines and on-board checklists to ensure best-practice is maintained. The fully searchable ship records allow offices to access evidence of current ship conditions and training histories and timings comprehensively, easing compliance with current regulation and regulation set to come into force in the future.
Patrick Mueller, Application Management, Siemens AG, Drive Technologies Division commented: “The unique concept of Siship EcoMain is its integral approach to collecting and consolidating operational ship data from different system supplier. This supplies superior applications via a simple and standardized interface and represents real customer value by optimizing ship operation and saving operational costs. Both native and third-party products become an integrated part of Siship EcoMain, such as the integration of NAPA Logbook in this agreement.
“For both Siemens and NAPA this is seen as the starting point for a further successful cooperation in the field of efficiency software systems. NAPA has been a market leader in the field of ship efficiency for many years now and Siemens sees this collaboration enabling our common customers to work towards a higher potential increase in the efficiency of their vessel operation. NAPA also increases the possible market access for EcoMAIN, for example opening routes into the Asian market for Siemens.”
Juha Heikinheimo, President, NAPA Group commented: “We are honored to work together with Siemens in supporting ship owners and operators to optimize their operations, and see this as an exciting starting point for collaboration between Siemens and NAPA. NAPA has grown over the last 25 years into the world’s leading maritime software house, highlighted by the co-operations developed with leading names like DSME on NAPA-DSME Power®, SDARI on Loading Computer and eco-efficiency solutions and with ClassNK on ClassNK-NAPA GREEN.
“At NAPA we understand that ship owners and managers are under increasing pressure to monitor and control their fuel costs, environmental and safety credentials. Through integration into Siemens’ Siship EcoMain platform we will be able to ensure more owners and operators have access to products developed over years of excellence in delivering safety and eco-efficiency to the industry. This integration is a natural partnership to support ship owners and operators in linking fleets and offices more continuously and efficiently.”
