Jacksonville's Sea Star Line orders 140 reefer containers in fleet build-up
AS part of a five-year plan to reduce the average age of Sea Star Line's entire refrigerated container fleet to less than three years, the company has ordered 100 new FEUs and 50 new 45-foot reefer boxes.
The Jacksonville carrier is now in the third year of its equipment replacement plan, reported the American Journal of Transportation of Plymouth, Massachusetts.
"Our customers rely on Sea Star Line for dependable refrigerated equipment and this is why it was so important to reduce the average age of our refrigerated equipment fleet through this five-year programme," said Sea Star vice president Bill Taylor.
The new refrigerated containers are due to be delivered to the Blount Island Terminal in Jacksonville, Florida, later this year.
The reefers will be fitted with Carrier Transicold's PrimeLine machinery, the latest technology available for refrigerated equipment.
The company's entire reefer fleet is equipped with the StarGuard remote reefer monitoring system to provide end-to-end visibility of the refrigerated unit's operation while in the company's cold chain.
