THE Port of Zeebrugge's container traffic in the first half of the year was up by 10.2 per cent at 10,952,836 tonnes, and up 9.9 per cent to 1,056,311 TEU.
The port handled a total of 22,040,932 tons of cargo. The best results were set in the container sector and the ro-ro traffic, which increased 5.8 per cent year on year.
General cargo declined 35 per cent, reaching a total 600,304 tonnes.
"We are pleased Zeebrugge handled almost one million tonnes more than it did during the first half of 2013. This makes us cautiously optimistic, as the maritime world still faces great challenges," said port CEO Joachim Coens
