Kalmar sells 10 eco-RTGs to assist Transnet to enhance Durban docks
CARGOTEC unit Kalmar has received an order to supply 10 straddle carriers to Transnet Port Terminals (TPT) Durban Pier 2, a dedicated straddle carrier for an undisclosed sum.
TPT is a division of state-owned Transnet currently pursuing a ZAR300 billion (US$28.3 billion) capital investment programme over seven years and now in its third year of execution.
The order was booked into Cargotec's first quarter intake 2014 with deliveries scheduled to be completed by October 2014.
The straddle carriers combine high performance and productivity with low maintenance and operating costs and are designed with operators in mind delivering strong environmental benefits, the company statement said.
The equipment also comply with the latest exhaust emission regulations, and improves fuel efficiency by up to 20 per cent over previous models and reducing running costs overall.
TPT opted for Kalmar's electric straddle carriers, which feature a twin lift system and lifting capabilities of 61 tonnes, the company added.
Said Kalmar South Africa managing director Anton Burchell: "Kalmar was able to provide Transnet the optimum solution, delivering high productivity and low operational costs."
