Sierra Leone Maritime Administration Launches Flag State Seminar
The opening ceremony of a National Seminar on Flag State Implementation and Maritime Legislative Review was held at the conference room of the Sierra Leone Maritime Administration (SLMA) Conference hall yesterday 31st July 2014.
The Seminar started on July 31stwill continue on the 1st of August 2014. The Seminar is jointly organized by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and funded by the European Union through the 10th European Development Fund Intra- ACP Project.
This programme is sponsored by the European Union (EU) through the Secretariat of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP) based in Brussels, Belgium. Sierra Leone is among the 19 beneficiary countries of the programme in West and Central Africa.
The objective of the program is to ensure that the Intra-Africa Trade involving African countries are carried out in the most efficient, safe, environmentally friendly and productive manner. In addition, the program is aimed at preparing the maritime administrations in Africa for the upcoming mandatory member state Audit Scheme of IMO.
