PMA, ILWU break talks so union can deal with unrelated PNW trouble
The International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) and the Pacific Maritime Association (PMA) reported "several days of productive contract talks" after which they adjourned until August 4.
The talks were suspended so that the ILWU could resume unrelated contract negotiations in the Pacific Northwest. The PMA and ILWU will resume talks August 4 in San Francisco.
"The previous labour contract covering 20,000 longshore workers at 29 west coast ports expired July 1. While there is no contract extension in place, both parties have pledged to keep cargo moving," said the joint statement
