Int’l container shipping route opened in Bitung
North Sulawesi Deputy Governor Djouhari Kansil has said the opening of an international container shipping route between Bitung Port in North Sumatra and Tanjung Pelepas in Malaysia is expected to contribute greatly to business development in his province.
Djouhari made the remarks at the inauguration of the service by the Vega Viyen vessel owned by the Maersk Line shipping company at Bitung Port in Manado, North Sulawesi, on Monday.
The deputy governor said through the opening of the shipping route, businesspeople in the eastern part of Indonesia could send their products to their countries of destination faster without stopovers at Tanjung Priok Port in Jakarta or Tanjung Perak Port in Surabaya, thereby reducing transportation costs, Antara news agency reported on Tuesday.
He expressed confidence that business people from Papua, Maluku and Sulawesi would take advantage of the new facility. (yln)
