DHL launches service for those needing extremely low temperatures
GERMANY'S DHL Global Forwarding says its has now enhanced its cold chain logistics in the transport of hyper-cold cryogenic temperatures shipments of minus 150 Celsius and below.
Designed for customers needing cryogenic solutions, the service is maintained by temperature management specialist LifeConEx in collaboration with Cryoport, a provider of frozen shipping services.
"It also relieves customers from more precarious shipping methods such as dry ice or use of hazardous liquid nitrogen," said LifeConEx CEO David Bang.
DHL said the new service combines express delivery speed and Cryoport's ability to ship temperature-sensitive products and biological materials in a deep-frozen state.
The service uses a non-hazardous liquid nitrogen dry vapour shipper, which has an IATA A152 waiver, providing 10 days of holding time at minus 150 Celsius in a safe and environmentally friendly manner.
"Compared to dry ice which needs to be replenished every few days and is prone to temperature deviations. This offers more reliability, critical for fragile and temperature-sensitive materials," said the company statement.
The service includes a temperature monitoring tool and customers can track their shipments at any given time via an online platform.
