Brussels' local rails are halted by rail worker strike
INTERNATIONAL high-speed services and trains on most local lines in Brussels were halted by a industry action at the end of last month when a railway workers' union called a 24-hour strike in a row over working conditions.
On Monday, Thalys, which connects Belgium with France, the Netherlands and Germany cancelled all its services. Eurostar said its Brussels-bound trains were grounded in Lille France, but services to Paris were normal.
Belgian railway operators NMBC/SNCB said that owing to the suspension of train services only a few local locomotives were operating on its network. Brussels and other major cities had been completely cut off, reported Reuters.
