MSC cuts fuel bill with Cargotec Kalmar straddle carrier in Antwerp
KALMAR's hybrid straddle carrier claims to have set a fuel consumption and emissions standard in operations at MSC Home Terminal in Antwerp since they were introduced last October.
"The Kalmar hybrid straddle carrier's regenerative energy system converts electrical braking and spreader lowering energy into electric power that is stored in batteries," said Kalmar vice president Tero Kokko.
The new system can deliver a 40 per cent decrease in fuel consumption compared to existing machines in the market while meeting the most stringent engine emission regulations worldwide, said a company statement.
"We opted for the new Kalmar hybrid straddle carrier to gain savings in fuel consumption, to decrease carbon dioxide emissions and to improve usability and driver experience," said MSC Home Terminal tech manager Randy Verresen.
