South Africa port box volume rises 8pc to 4.69 million TEU in 2013
THE combined container throughput at South African ports reached 4.69 million TEU in 2013 an eight per cent year-on-year increase, according to London's Clarkson Research Services.
Clarkson's Container Intelligence Monthly also reported that the country's biggest port, the Port of Durban, handled 2.63 million TEU in 2013, a 2.5 per cent increase.
But the fastest growing port was Ngqura (Coeega), a new greenfield project near East London, which posted a 34 per cent year-on-year increase to 780,000 TEU in 2013.
