Manila-Subic feeder line opens July 1
Cargo shippers in Northern and Central Luzon areas can expect a cost-efficient alternative to Manila ports starting next month when a feeder service begins operation of a Manila-Subic route.
Roberto Garcia, chairman and administrator of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA), announced on Friday that PTC Agency & Transport Inc., a freight-forwarding company based in Makati City, will start operating a Manila-Subic shuttle service that will serve as a common feeder for shipping lines catering to locators and shippers in and around Northern Luzon.
The faster, cheaper transport system will have a twice-a-week schedule, with the maiden port call scheduled on July 1 at the Manila International Container Port. The cargo will arrive in Subic the following morning.
Garcia, who discussed the schedule last week with PTC President Edgar Milla, said the feeder service would make shipping more efficient and also help address difficulties that shipping lines and truckers face because of the truck ban imposed by the Manila City government.
Garcia said Subic is a better alternative to shipping via Manila, as it would be cheaper and more convenient for shippers, especially those in Central and Northern Luzon, to load and unload their cargo in this free port.
“Out of the 2.8 million containers that are shipped through the port of Manila every year, 450,000 of these go to Central Luzon.
