Atlantic Container Line makes Port of Liverpool its conro hub
ATLANTIC Container Line (ACL) has made the Port of Liverpool its British base for its five new G4 ro-co/containerships, the company announced.
The New Jersey-based ACL chose Liverpool because of its potential business opportunities and scheduling, reported the Liverpool Post.
The ACL fleet of five constitutes the largest ro-ro / containership, or conro ships in the world, the company claims, reports London's Port Technology International.
Currently, 3,800-TEU ships are under construction in China, which dwarfs the earlier 1,850-TEU G3 vessels.
"This strengthens our strong links with Liverpool; its enhanced facilities are designed to handle increased volumes the new fleet will create," said ACL managing director UK Ian Highboy.
Said Liverpool port director David Huck: "We've worked closely with their team to reduce transit times through the dock system, accommodating the significant extra volumes the new fleet will require."
Port of Liverpool owner Peel Ports is building its Liverpool 2 deep-water terminal to be operational by 2015, allowing 13,500 Tenures to call directly.
