China's logistics business volume index slips 2.5 to score 55.2 in May
THE China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing (CFLP) figures show that the national business volume index fell 2.5 per cent, but scored 55.2 per cent in May, indicating more expansion than contraction, reports Xinhua.
While the index fell in May, it managed to stay above the critical level of 50 per cent, and was even above 55 per cent, indicating China's logistics industry continues upward.
Judging from different areas, the index for the eastern region declined, hindered the heavy rains and flooding, while for the central and western regions it increased slightly.
Employee index and facility utilisation rate index both declined. The former went down 0.2 to 51 per cent, while the latter fell two points to 53.4 per cent.
Inventory turnover index rose 0.7 to 50.1 per cent with the average inventory index rising 1.5 points to 50.1 per cent.
Logistics service price index slipped 0.3 percentage point month on month to 49.2 per cent, while the core business cost index maintained 55.6 per cent, almost the same level as last month.
Capital turnover index climbed 3.2 percentage points to 50.8 per cent. New order index dropped 1.7 percentage points to 53.7 per cent. The business expectation index fell 4.3 to 57.4 per cent, showing that the logistics industry in the latter part of the year will continue to go on an upward trend steadily although both slipped in this month.
