US probes dumping allegations against China's 53-foot box trailers
THE US Commerce Department has launched an investigation following complaints by domestic manufacturers of anti-dumping and countervailing duty practices involving the import of 53-foot dry containers from China.
The Commerce Department said its probe involves refrigerated containers; trailers where cargo boxes and rear wheeled chassis are of integrated and inseparable construction.
The petitioner for the investigation is Stoughton Trailers in Wisconsin, reported American Shipper. The US International Trade Commission (ITC) is due to make its preliminary injury determinations by June 9.
In 2013, the US recorded imports of such containers from China estimated to be valued at US$184.2 million.
If the ITC preliminarily determines that there is a reasonable indication that imports of 53-foot domestic dry containers from China harm US domestic manufacturers of this equipment, the investigation will continue.
