MOL offers auto delivery from Mexico to major US east-west coast ports
JAPANESE shipping giant MOL is to offer new car carrier services for Mexico's automobile production to the US east coast and west coast ports to meet rising demand for Mexican-made cars of which 80 per cent are exported, reports American Shipper.
The weekly service, which launched in March carrying vehicles from American Honda, deploys three mid-size vessels to ply Veracruz to ports in Jacksonville, Brunswick (Georgia) Baltimore, Newark and Davisville (Rhode Island). Nissan and Mazda will use the service later this month, said MOL Bulk Shipping US chief Norio Abe.
Its bi-weekly service from Lazaro Cardenas goes to San Diego, Richmond, Portland, Tacoma and Vancouver area New Westminster. This is part of an existing service that moves cars from Europe to east coast ports and then via Panama to Los Angeles before heading to the Far East.
This service, at four sailings per month, of which two will pick up Mexican-made vehicles, at Lazaro Cardenas, has customers in American Honda and Mazda so far.
The Japanese carriers aims to increase this to once a week within a year to meet increasing production volume it predicts will increase by 10 per cent annually
