Guangdong to speed up five Guangdong-HK cross-border transport projects
GUANGDONG's Provincial Development and Reform Commission said that there are five Guangdong-Hong Kong cross-border transport infrastructure projects between to be accelerated this year.
Commission director Li Chunhong said that as of the end of February, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge's main project has cost CNY14.67 billion (US$2.36 billion), representing 38.5 per cent of projected expenditure and will open by 2017.
Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong high-speed railway section in Shenzhen's Futian District is underway and will be completed by 2015.
The Shenzhen-Hong Kong Western Express Line, which is a railway connecting the airports of the two cities, is undergoing pre-project studies.
The Shenzhen-Hong Kong Eastern Cross-border Expressway, which cost CNY6 billion, is to be finished by 2016. The project is also undergoing pre-project preparations.
Guangdong and Hong Kong will also cooperate on the border inspection facilities for the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, and study the location and operation of clearance facilities for the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong high-speed railway.
The two sides aim to promote electronic clearance system and increase the application of such system from 40 to 80 per cent by 2015.
