Gansu province's rail freight rates to become more market based
CHINA'S hinterland province Gansu has changed its railway freight rate pricing mechanism from government-fixed to a more flexible form, in a bid to implement China's National Development and Reform Commission's decision to have railway freight rates go more market-based, Xinhua reports.
In the new pricing way, there will be a maximum price fixed by the state government and railway operators in Gansu can adjust the rates downward according to market demand.
Gansu's local government has required all railway operators under the Lanzhou Railway Bureau, the local railway administration authority, to comply with the new regulation and will allow no railway freight rates higher than the state-government-fixed maximum.
