China road and waterway cargo traffic saw growth in first two months
DURING the first two months of this year, China recorded growth in both road and waterway cargo transport volume, according to the latest figures posted by the Ministry of Transportation, quoted by Xinhua News Agency.
China moved 760 million tonnes of freight on waterways in this period, which was 6.4 per cent more than a year ago. Cargo turnover increased three per cent to 1.34 trillion tonnes per kilometre.
Road freight transportation volume climbed nine per cent to 5.43 billion tonnes. Turnover grew 11.1 per cent to one trillion tonnes per kilometre.
In February, China moved 360 million tonnes of cargo on waterways and 2.56 billion on road. Waterway cargo turnover was 644.5 billion tonnes per kilometre. Road cargo turnover was 472.9 billion tonnes per kilometre.
