FMC fines Rickmers US$190,000 after CEO Widdows spots violation
GERMANY's Rickmers Linie has been fined US$190,000 by the US Federal Maritime Commission after coming forward to volunteer information of contract and tariff violations as well as offences of failing to file a space charter agreement with a regional carrier.
The breaches of the US Shipping Act came to light internally during the line's corporate modernisation and expansion programme, the FMC said, reported Lloyd's List
The FMC said Rickmers CEO Ron Widdows contacted the commission's Bureau of Enforcement to disclose the violations of the Shipping Act with respect to its breakbulk and container operations.
The FMC and Rickmers determined Rickmers Linie had operated under an unfiled space charter agreement with a small, regional carrier primarily involved in inter-Asia service.
