Dalian bonded zone Sino-Japanese cold storage unit starts operation

THE first phase of the cold storage project jointly invested by Dalian's Zhangzidao Fishery Group and the Tokyo-based Chuo Gyorui Co as well as Hohsui Corp has started operation in the Port of Dalian's Dayaowan bonded area.

The cold storage warehouse occupies 60,000 square metres with a capacity of 50,000 tonnes. Including the new facility, Dayaowan bonded port area's cold storage capacity has reached 135,000 tonnes.

And the port area is still planning to raise the capacity to 450,000 tonnes in two years to becomes the largest cold chain logistics base in China, says Xinhua.

Each of the facility's six storeys has two 2,400-square metre storage space. It is the first in China to use ammonia-carbon dioxide refrigerating system. The consumption of ammonia is only three per cent of the conventional systems.

Dayaowan has kept expanding its cold storage capacity as frozen food market outlook is deemed bright. Last year, the bonded port area handled 39.87 tonnes of cold storage cargo, which is 228 per cent more than in 2012. Value of these cargo surged 55.2 per cent to US$520 million.

This year, Dayaowan bonded port area's cold storage capacity will reach 200,000 tonnes.
