Georgia Ports Authority January volume up 12.5pc to 259,159 TEU
THE Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) has announced that it achieved gains of 12.5 per cent in container volumes and 7.3 per cent in overall tonnage in January compared to the same month last year.
The Port of Savannah handled 259,159 TEU, up from 230,372 TEU over the same month a year ago. Freight moved across all terminals totalled 2.45 million tonnes, a year on year increase of 166,544 tons.
"We are encouraged by the strong growth in January that continued a trend that began during the quarter and are hopeful these volumes signal a strengthening US and global economy," said GPA executive director Curtis Foltz.
In the Brunswick Colonel's Island Terminal led GPA terminals to a 6.1 per cent increase in automobile and heavy equipment units moved during the fiscal year to date.
Including Savannah's Ocean Terminal, the GPA moved 386,070 units of roll-on/roll-off cargo, up by 22,044 units. Brunswick handled most of those moves, at 372,146 units from July through January.
