Qinghai province to spend US$3.78 billion on road building in 2014
NORTHWEST Qinghai province plans to invest CNY23 billion (US$3.78 billion) in on roads in 2014 - 20 per cent more than it did in 2013, reports Xinhua.
The provincial government has earmarked CNY19.7 billion for major highways and CNY2 billion on rural roads.
Qinghai provincial transport department director Han Jianhua said 2013 road building paved 4,129 new kilometres with total provincial coverage now surpassing 70,000 kilometres.
Thus far, 3,787 kilometres regional expressways have been listed in the national expressway network and 6,570 kilometres provincial highways and rural roads have been upgraded to national highway standard.
Also an expressway network of more than 3,000 kilometres has formed the largest circulation economic circle in China and 10 road projects have commenced construction ahead of schedule.
The establishment of the comprehensive transportation system is said to further accelerate Qinghai plateau area's economic and social development.
