Chongqing's cargo traffic grows 12.7pc last year to 974 million tonnes
CHONGQING recorded a cargo traffic volume of 974.17 million tonnes altogether in 2013, which was 12.7 per cent more than in 2012.
The city's railways moved 23.34 million tonnes of outbound cargo, up 4.2 per cent, and 44.12 million tonnes of inbound cargo, up 10.7 per cent. A total of 402,895 rail freight cars were loaded last year.
Waterway traffic cargo climbed 11.5 per cent to 143 million tonnes. Aggregate throughput of the ports in the city grew 9.5 per cent to 136 million tonnes. Container throughput increased 12.8 per cent to 910,000 TEU.
Of the 806 million tonnes of freight were moved on road last year, 13.2 per cent more than in 2012. Air freight grew 4.1 per cent to 280,000 tonnes.
