US exports hit US$2.3 trillion with 16 states setting records in 2013
THE US exported goods valued at US$2.3 trillion last year with 26 states achieving growth in 2013 and 16 setting revenue records, according to the federal Commerce Department.
Export leaders were Texas with $279.7 billion and California with $168.1 billion in value. Following were Washington ($81.9 billion), Louisiana ($63.1 billion) and Michigan ($58.5 billion).
Also setting export value records were Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Ohio, South Carolina and Tennessee.
The states that experienced export growth in 2013 were Alaska, Arizona, Delaware, Kansas, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania and South Dakota, reported American Shipper.
"These export numbers show that for more and more American companies, selling internationally is critical to growing their businesses and strengthening our economy," said US Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker.
