Construction commences on Jiangsu's Lianyungang-Yancheng Railway

THE CNY26 billion (US$4.28 billion) 234-kilometre Lianyungang-Yancheng Railway in eastern China's Jiangsu province recently held a ground-breaking ceremony and is expected to complete construction by June 2017, reports Xinhua.

With a designed speed of 200 kph, the rail line will stretch from Ganyu County in the province's Lianyungang city to Yancheng city. Once completed, it will focus on passengers transport more than freight.

Twelve stations are planned along the route including the Ganyu North Station and others at Ganyu, Lianyungang, Haizhou, Dongji, Yangji, Tianlou, Xiangshui, Binhai, Funing East, Sheyang and Yancheng North Station.

The national railway network shows that China is building a coastal thoroughfare, which will link China's coastal cities from north to south, Yantai, Qingdao, Lianyungang, Yancheng, Nantong, Shanghai, Ningbo and Shenzhen.

After the rail operation, transits will be reduced by half from Lianyungang and Yancheng to Shanghai as well as the time from the entire Shandong Peninsula to Shanghai will be greatly reduced.
