Gantang-Wuweinan rail second line to start construction in 2014
THE second Gantang-Wuweinan railway line, linking Gantang station in Zhongwei city, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region on the Yellow River 600 miles south of Mongolia to Wuweinan station in Gansu province, is expected to start construction in the first half of 2014, reports Xinhua.
The Gantang-Wuweinan railway is the convenient rail route for passenger and cargo transport between northwest and north China through connecting Xinjiang's Lanxin rail line and Beijing-Baotou and Baotou-Lanzhou rail line.
With a full length of 172 kilometres, it spans across three provinces, Gansu, Inner Mongolia and Ningxia. At present, its transport capacity cannot meet the demand for railway transport.
The second line has a designed annual freight transport capacity of 200 million tonnes and a daily passenger coach capacity of 15 runs in each direction. Once completed, the overall transport capacity of the second line project will be five times more than the existing railway.
