Urumqi customs notes 141 Sino-European freights since November 2011

ONE hundred and forty-one freight trains between China to Europe have crossed border via checkpoints in Xinjiang the transcontinental rail service began in November 2011, according to the Urumqi Customs Administration. 

These trains carried 12,000 TEU, mostly laptops, LCD screens, computer data storage units, garments and accessories and auto parts, according to Xinhua. 



Ninety-four trains were of Chongqing-Xinjiang-Europe railway carried 8,000 TEU. Thirty-two took the Chongqing-Europe rail route, carrying 2,800 TEU. The Zhengzhou-Xinjiang-Europe railway ran 15 trains carrying 1,200 TEU. 



Today, trains from different parts of China cross the border at Xinjiang's checkpoints every week, running on the Eurasian Land Bridge. 



Urumqi Customs said the freights can now be cleared at the border checkpoint within four hours of their arrival, which is much faster than before. 



The Eurasian Land Bridge, composed of the Lianyungang-Lanzhou Railway and Lanzhou-Xinajiang Railway, start from China's eastern sea port of Lianyungang and crosses China's border at Xinjiang's Alashankou checkpoint before going on to Europe.
