Yantai port container volume up 16.2pc to 2.15 million TEU in 2013

THE Port of Yantai in northern China's Shandong province posted a record 16.2 per cent increase year on year in container volume to 2.15 million TEU in 2013, reports Xinhua.

The port's overall cargo volume increased 6.1 per cent to 287 million tonnes in the year, entering the list of national top 10 coastal ports.

The robust growth of the port was attributed to a series of supportive measures the port authority introduced in 2013. The authority spent CNY2.3 billion (US$380.19 million) on its port projects in 2013, which has brought 15 million tonnes of new terminal capacity to the port.

Five projects in its western port area include the opening of a 300,000-tonne ore terminal, 150,000-tonne coal terminal, 50,000-tonne LNG berth, 50,000-tonne oil berth and three 50,000-tonne universal berth.

Two projects in its Longkou port area include the opening of two 50,000-tonne universal berths and a 150,000-tonne terminal in Qimudao operating area. The 50,000-tonne navigation channel project in Laizhou port area has also been completed as well as two 35,000-tonne universal berths put into operation.

Meanwhile, Yantai port's Laizhou-Changyi crude oil pipeline has been put into operation, and the body project of western port area-Zibo pipeline is about to be finished.
