Guangdong's ports box volume 4pc in 2013, growing 1pc against 2012

GUANGDONG provincial ports posted a four per cent year-on-year increase in container throughput to 49.32 million TEU in 2013, growing one per cent more than in the previous year, according to the Guangdong Statistics Bureau. 

Guangzhou and Shenzhen's container volumes accounted for nearly 80 per cent of the total with Guangzhou taking 31 per cent, or 15.3 million TEU, while Shenzhen took 47.2 per cent, or 23.27 million TEU. 



Guangdong ports' collective throughput amounted to 1.49 billion tonnes in 2013, 10.1 per cent more than in 2012. Growth was 5.1 per cent up on the year before. 



Zhuhai port and Humen port first saw their throughput surpass 100 million tonnes last year, and became one of Guangdong's 100-million-tonne ports after Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Zhanjiang, raising the total of such ports in the province to five. 



Guangdong's domestic trade throughput climbed 13.1 per cent to 997.48 million tonnes last year, three percentage points higher than in 2012. Foreign trade throughput grew 4.6 per cent to 496.03 million tonnes, 8.5 percentage points lower than the growth in domestic trade
