Sino-North Korean Yalu River Bridge to open to traffic in 2014
THE new Yalu River Road Bridge jointly built by China and North Korea is expected to complete construction and open to motor traffic this year, reports Xinhua.
With four-lane road in each direction, the three-kilometre bridge started construction on December 31, involving an investment of CNY2.22 billion (US$366.74 million).
The existing Yalu River Bridge is now the only road route between northern China's Liaoning province and North Pyongan Province in North Korea. With one-way traffic, the bridge built in 1937 can only allow trucks with under 20-tonne cargo capacity go through.
