Sino-Russian e-tailers planning accelerated online shopping system
MORE than 50 top e-commerce companies from China and Russia recently met in northeastern China city Harbin to discuss improving shipping of goods that Russian shoppers buy from Chinese online stores.
Since Harbin-Yekaterinburg cargo flights started two months ago to foster online shopping growth, transit times have been slashed from two months to seven days and 520,000 parcels have been flown from China to Russia, reports Xinhua.
Statistics from the Ministry of Commerce show that Russian visitors take up nearly 50 per cent of the total visitors to Aliexpress, the online overseas business platform for domestic sellers operated by China's largest e-commerce website. Russian contribute 30 per cent of Aliexpress' trading value.
Located in the centre of the north east Asia region, Harbin has worked out a plan to boost trade with Russia with air cargo services, Russian-oriented e-commerce platform and cross-boundary financial settlement service.
Harbin Bank has started cross-border online shopping Renminbi settlement service and foreign exchange settlement service for Russian Ruble, in order to facilitate e-commerce trade.
Besides cargo flight services, the Heihe River and Suifenhe River, as well as the Beijing-Moscow passenger and cargo transportation services, are also means to move online-bought products to Russia.
This year, Harbin will also build a warehouse in the south of the city especially for Russian trade goods and will attract cross-border e-commerce companies and freight forwarders to set branches there.
