Charleston thanks Congress for fast-tracking harbour dredging
THE US House of Representatives has passed the Omnibus appropriations bill, which includes critical funding for the Port of Charleston's dredging, announced the South Carolina Ports Authority.
"This allows our harbour deepening project to continue to move forward, and South Carolina benefits from their commitment to the port and its role in our state's prosperity," said SCPA chairman Bill Stern.
The bill also includes funding for the US Army Corps of Engineers to continue its feasibility study of the post-45 harbour deepening project expected to be published in September 2015.
"The bill also provides construction funds for Charleston that could enable the deepening project to move forward without delay upon receipt of the report," said the SCPA statement.
The bill will move to the Senate for a vote before going on US presidential ratification.
