Zhejiang's Zhoushan Comprehensive Bonded Zone opens for business

THE Zhoushan Port Comprehensive Bonded Zone in eastern China's Zhejiang province announced the official commencement of its phase one project, the first step towards a free trade zone, according to officials, reports Xinhua.

With a total area of 5.85 square kilometres, the bonded zone has won the establishment approval from the State Council on September 29, 2012. 



Construction was conducted in two phases. The 2.6-square kilometre phase one project passed acceptance check in November 2013 and the phase two is to start operation at the end of 2015.



Phase one is to become a hub for maritime equipment manufacturing, biological and electronic industries, warehousing, shipping, financial and exhibition services, according to the official plan for the zone. 



Covering an area of 3.02 square kilometres, the phase two project will focus on the development of warehousing and distribution business for staple commodities such as coal, ore and oils.
